János Balázs at Carnegie Hall
Capturing János Balázs at Carnegie Hall
János Balázs, the internationally acclaimed Hungarian concert pianist known for his powerful interpretations of Liszt, Bartók, and the Romantic repertoire, brought his unmistakable artistry to Carnegie Hall. A graduate of the prestigious Franz Liszt Academy of Music, Balázs is celebrated for his emotional depth, technical brilliance, and dynamic presence on the world’s leading stages.
I, Richard Law, was honored to be hired by the Liszt Institute for this prestigious photography assignment, documenting Balázs’s recital inside one of the most iconic concert halls in the world. From the moment he touched the keys, the room was filled with an intensity that was both intimate and electrifying.
My focus was on capturing the tension and release of each musical phrase—the expressive movement of his hands, the concentration etched into his posture, and the audience’s quiet awe. It was a privilege to preserve the atmosphere of a night where world-class musicianship met the timeless magic of Carnegie Hall.
